The opening sequence starts 22 seconds into the clip
The soundtrack is quite tense
The instruments used are a church organ and violin sounds
The image that appears is of someone crafting something
The audience know little about them at this point and the close ups distance them from the character
Below the image a rectangle of the screen is black
White titles are used to stand out from the black background
The titles fade in, and then fade out very quickly
The time with the titles on screen is very short compared to when they do not appear on the screen
This is so that the attention of the viewer is focused on the picture rather than the writing
All of these effects are done because it is important for the audience to be detached from the character on screen at that moment
The image fades out and the title of the film moves in the bottom coming closer to the screen
Loud high pitched slasher music accompanies the title for impact as it consumes the whole screen
A cut to the finished weapon stabbing some kind of curtain alerts the audience that this person is dangerous and a following cut reveals the victim
Her costume and background are white (connoting innocence)
A close up of her face reinforces the audiences recognition that she is innocent
As a very long shot shows her running down a dark corridor white titles appear on the left of the screen in a flash once type fashion
More appear and disappear as the young girl gets closer to the audience
As the shot changes the titles begin to appear on the right of the screen as the character occupies the left – the same flash once technique is used
The titles continue to switch which side of the screen they are on to coordinate with he characters place on screen, but they always stay on or below the half way point on the screen
